While in London, Kensington Gardens is a lovely place to take a break after a long day of sightseeing (or shopping at Harrods). One of London’s eight Royal Parks, Kensington Gardens is a must-see for all nature lovers and fans of the royal family.
Mom and I visited the gardens May 6, 2015, only a few days after HRH Princess Charlotte had been born. Four days beforehand, Tower Bridge and the London Eye cast a pink glow over the city in celebration. The entire experience was surreal. Strolling down the paths adjacent to a royal palace is this small-town Midwestern girl’s dream come true. Just make sure you have at least 15 pence on hand in case you need to visit the loo. 😉
It seemed paradoxical to stand in the peacefulness of the gardens while the paparazzi flanked the private gate to Kensington Palace hoping to catch a glimpse of the royal family or a famous visitor.
Joggers, picnickers, and shutterbugs enjoyed the beautiful, breezy Wednesday morning in Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park. The flowering trees were at their peak, and everything from English roses to bluebells flourished. I especially liked the whimsical Peter Pan statue and the Italian Garden, and no one can deny the intricate beauty of the opulent Albert Memorial in its gold and marble glory.
Happy Trails!
