While traveling from Indiana to Washington State, we decided to spend a few days in South Dakota to explore Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, and other phenomenal sites.
A little gem is located on Exit 170 of Interstate 90 in the town of Murdo, South Dakota. Roadtrippers have the opportunity to step back in time in 1880 town. The town comprises thirty buildings ranging in age from the 1880s-1920s. Visitors may rent era-appropriate costumes and saunter around town in style. In addition to furniture, decor, and machinery from the period, guests will see props from Dances with Wolves and can browse a museum dedicated to nine-time world champion rodeo cowboy, Casey Tibbs.
So if you’re headed to Rapid City, SD, or Yellowstone National Park, save some time to experience the history of the American West. Oh, and if you’re hungry, the daily specials and homemade pies at the 50s train diner near the entrance of 1880 Town are sure to hit the spot!
