Stop and smell the roses Saturday: Wildcraft! An Herbal Adventure Game

Hello, adventurers! I hope you are having a fabulous weekend.

I am excited because I received Wildcraft! An Herbal Adventure Game in the mail today. I played a round with my mom, and we really enjoyed it.  The game is for kids of ALL ages four and up. The game includes small pieces.

The object of the game is to climb the mountainous trail to collect berries in the huckleberry patch at the center of the board and return to Grandmother’s house at the beginning. If one of the players lags behind or draws a “trouble card,” cooperation cards (the rainbow ones) let players help one another.

Along the way, players learn what herbs help in different circumstances. For instance, echinacea is listed as a natural remedy for fever. The cards do not explain how to prepare each herb for consumption or topical application. A more extensive education of herbs should be obtained before a long distance hike, for example.

The plant cards are colorfully illustrated and list the common and Latin name for each plant.

This game would be a great way to introduce students or your own children/grandchildren to the wonderful world of nature. It’s  fun for adults, too! 🙂

Happy Trails!
