As I reminisced about my trip to Savannah, Georgia, I took six years ago, Leopold’s tutti frutti ice cream came to mind.
Leopold’s Ice Cream was the creation of three Greco-American brothers, Peter, George, and Basil, in 1919. Legendary song writer Johnny Mercer was particularly fond of Leopold’s tutti frutti flavor.
Stratton Leopold, son of Peter Leopold, learned the tricks of the ice cream trade as a young boy. Later, Stratton followed his dreams to become a movie producer in Hollywood, producing many large-budget films such as Mission Impossible III. Items from some of the films Stratton produced are sprinkled throughout the ice cream parlor.
